DJI FAA Registration Announcementstan
Received Tuesday Dec. 22, 2015
Greetings DJI Partners,
On the 21st of December 2015, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandated that recreational/hobbyist owners/operators of unmanned aircrafts (i.e. Drones) weighing between 0.55 and 55 pounds register their drones before flying them outdoors. This weight category includes ALL previous and current DJI makes and models.
Drone registration will enable the FAA to trace aircrafts more easily in the event of a security or safety incident, and to help return lost aircrafts. In general, an accountability mechanism is desirable because it helps assure the public that drones are not being misused. Registering is just one step in being a responsible ‘drone’ operator. DJI urges our vast customer base to be responsible users and register their aircrafts.
We are aware of legal objections. DJI supports the type of drone operator accountability that is contemplated by a registration system, and as a member of the FAA Registration Task Force, advocated for a system that was reasonable, easy to use, and protective of personal information.
As a DJI Partner, we ask that you inform ALL customers about FAA Registration at the point-of-sale.
The FAQ attached, answers questions on the assumption that individuals are interested in registering, without taking legal position.
Thank you for your continued support of our DJI Product Lines.
Best, Cato, K.W.
